A Raisin in the Sun
Mama thinks that Booker T. Washington and George are fools because George wants an average girl that's simple, he also thinks that Beneatha is a boring person and she analysis everything. Mama thinks that Booker T. Washington is a fool because he says that African-Americans need to be plowing the fields instead of getting a good education and learn something. Mrs. Johnson is jealous of Mama because Mama has money and bought a new house. Booker T. Washington and George were wealthy and that's why they got respected. They also said that if you had enough money and you have a job, then you would get respected by white people. Beneatha felt that if you know your heritage, you will change your society and George believes that if you have money and you do what everyone else does, you will change your society. Mrs. Johnson is jealous and you can tell that she is because she says that they will be bombed if they move to Clybourne and she says Walter is a loser. Mama gave Walter the money to show that she values him and he is head of the house hold and she had confidence in him. She realized that Walter felt like Walter didn't feel like the head of the house when she talked to Mrs. Johnson. If Walter still feels like a servant and he moves into a white neighborhood, he would feel like a servant, it would not make him feel like he had confidence. He would feel like a man if he had his own business. Walter, like George is caught up in the materialism of the world. Lena wants Walter to waning to run a business.
