The Book Lord of the Flies by William Golding differed from the movie by Harry Hook because in the movie, they were American unlike the book, in which they were British. Another reason is because the pilot survived in the movie, but in the book he did not survive. The last reason was the difference between the dialogue from the book and the movie.
In the book, the boys were British. In the movie, they are American. British children are more disciplined and it slowly described them becoming savage, starting with them hunting for the pig. They would first have an assembly in the book and then they would make decisions about what to do next and Ralph would also tell Jack that he has control of the choir. Jack would also take advantage of the fact that he had control of the choir by taking them hunting while they were supposed to watch the fire. In the movie, the boys become savage much faster than they did in the book. In the movie, they would form their own little group to go hunting and leave out the opportunities to get rescued. Once Ralph found out, he would confront Jack and then they would break away from Ralph’s tribe.
In the book, the boys were more careful with their choice of words and they did not say swear words. In the movie, the boys went around saying bad words to each other, which seemed pretty unrealistic due to their age (which ranges from six-to-twelve). The importance of the difference of the dialogue is that it shows how the British are more disciplined because of their choice of their words. The Americans differed from the British because they said a lot of bad words. This relates to the first point because it refers to disciplinary standards.
In the book, the pilot did not survive the crash, unlike in the movie, where the pilot survived. The importance of the pilot not surviving in the book is because Golding wants to display a message: if there is nobody to make rules in society, there will not be any order in civilization and no stability in society. People would also break away from each other and do what pleases them. In the movie, the pilot survived. The importance of this is that the pilot leaves a gap between no stability in society and no orderly civilization. This is lost because they have sense of adulthood to supervise them.
In the end, the movie is a mile away from relating to the book. The book changed people lives and made them realize the importance of having stability in society and civilization, unlike the movie, where they didn’t show that importance. The three of the main differences from the book and the movie were the discipline, dialogue, and adult supervision.
