From Land To Sea

The trees were being engulfed by the sudden flames of the fire. Ralph ran as fast as he could and his feet carried him as far as possible. Jack was screaming orders to the others to make sure that he wouldn’t get away this time.

“Don’t let him get away!” Jack screamed like a devil. Jack threw his spear at Ralph and it skid his right shoulder, but did not penetrate it. Ralph screamed in agony but he that there was no stopping a kept running. Ralph disappeared through some bushes that separated him from the others. He knew, now, that Jack could not make Ralph succumb until their next encounter.

“Why did you let him get away you idiot!” Jack yelled at yelled at Roger. Roger was on the verge of rage, the wall that kept Roger separated from Jack was now torn down. Roger raised his fist and punched Jack in the face, there came a cry of pain from jack. Jack’s bloody face pressed against the black, burning ground.

Ralph could hear the commotion coming from the other side of the bushes, which were now burning. He knew that this would be his only chance to rescue Sam n’ Eric. He would walk around the bushes, to the back of the tribe and tell Sam n’ Eric to come with him. The ashes from the burning trees crunched under his feet as he nervously made his way to the back.

“Sam, Eric psst!” Ralph hissed at them silently as for the others would not hear him. They turned around in a brusque manner, as if they were to encounter another beast that they did not know of. Ralph gestured for them to come with him. They doubted the offer, but knew that it would be the best choice if they wished to survive. They crawled through the used-to-be green bushes to the other side of the circle. They quickly made their way towards water.

The circled enclosed on Jack, they were now doing their chant.

“Cut its throat, bash its head, and do him in!”

Roger stood before Jack with death and rage in his eyes. Jacked begged for mercy, but Roger does not spare those he despises. He would become the new leader and he knew it. Once Jack was out of the way, he would hunt Ralph like a real hunter would do.

“Please Roger, don’t kill me,” he said. Tears were coming out of Jack’s eyes for the first time. “I am the leader, no matter what!” Jack screamed savage like, “You will not k—“ but before Jack had the chance to say another word, Roger thrust his spear cleanly through Jacks solid heart. The chant grew louder, for Roger was the new leader.

“Does anyone else have any obligations? Roger asked the group of boys “speak now and see what will happen.” The boys stood still and dare not move. The chant had died away. Nobody moved and nobody breathed. “We will hunt Ralph now!” He yelled like a true hunter. Nobody seemed to notice Sam and Eric’s disappearance. They ran through the naked bushes. Jack’s body lay lifeless on the hard soil.

Ralph, Sam, and Eric were running through the green trees, they were running as fast as the deaths on the island had occurred. They came to the border of the forest.

“Hurry! Start getting logs, now!” Ralph screamed at the twin boys, who obeyed him directly. Ralph started taking of strips of palm tree leaves that was to serve as rope for the raft.

“What are we making?” Sam asked hurriedly as he came with a two meter-long log on his arms.

“We are making a raft to escape from those psychos!”Ralph said as he continued to tear off strips.

Roger and the hunters ran through the soon-to-be burnt debris. The hunters made an endeavor to get through the forest, but the creepers that were encompassing them made it a difficult trek. They wrenched themselves free from all the creepers and fought their way through the forest. Roger made it to the edge of the forest. He spotted Ralph, Sam, and Eric putting the raft in the water.

“You will not get away!” Roger screamed as he sprinted towards the raft, through the soft, white sand.

“Put it in the water!” Ralph shouted. Ralph grabbed his spear that lay in the bulky sand and grabbed it firmly in his palms. He pointed the blade which made Roger stop in his tracks. Roger thrust his spear towards Ralph’s chest, but Ralph side stepped it. Ralph found his opportunity to strike Roger and made that opportunity a success. Roger screamed in pain as the spear penetrated his right shoulder. Now they were both injured. The blades glistened in the reflection of the sunlight. Ralph then swept Roger’s feet with the spear, which left and incarnation of the edge of the blade. Roger fell to the ground clutching on to his leg. Ralph let out a cry like the hunters did when Simon was brutally murdered and wrenched the spear through the chest of Roger. Roger’s eyes rolled upwards as he lay motionless on the ground. The hunters finally made their way to the edge of the forest and stopped dead as they saw Roger’s lifeless body laying in the glistening sand. They all screamed like the hunters used to and charged at Ralph to avenge him for Roger. Ralph ran as fast as possible towards the water. He head dived into the azure water and swam as fast as he could towards the raft that was now floating a 100 meters off-shore. The hunters threw their spears in rage, but luckily for Ralph. They all missed.

Ralph and the twins sat on the raft in the middle of the ocean. It was not until a fluttering sound came from the never-ending skies, that their hope came to a tensely reaction. The helicopter came from the evil, grey clouds, and landed by the raft. The pressure from the propellers caused the raft to sink into the water and accumulate. The raft slowly sank and the men from the helicopters helped them in.

“Are you all right?” one of the pilots asked them. Ralph’s jaw dropped and a spontaneous smile broadened across Ralph’s face.

“Dad?” Ralph said in awe.

“Ralph, is that you?” his dad asked in amazement. They proceeded to hug each other. The love and affection that Ralph had been seeking for many months now, finally met him.

Rationale

I chose to start off at the part where the island is burning because it is such an intense scene and the way my story plan was going seemed to add on to that intensity. I made Ralph save Sam and Eric because they were needed for him to make the raft. Roger kills Jack because Roger can’t take Jack’s attitude and he seeks leadership.

Roger then dies because Ralph has no other choice than to fight him when Roger tries to stop him from leaving with the twins on the raft. I made it so the hunters would have a hard time to get through the forest because it would buy them time to make the raft.

Ralph’s dad comes and saves them to make the ending a bit softer due to all the fighting and harshness of the climax.
